To launch the Reset 2 Zero Campaign, the Cedar and Ruby Health Alliance partnered with House on the Rock in Eket, Nigeria, to provide rural communities in Akwa Ibom State with vital health screenings and direct access to on-site medical doctors. To combat cardiovascular and metabolic risks, the organization supplied Amlodipine and Glucophage to patients with blood pressure and blood sugar readings above the safe threshold.
Key Insights and Screening Results
Screening results revealed high rates of hypertension, with 45 participants meeting the criteria for Stage 1 or Stage 2 Hypertension (140/90 mmHg). Notably, data showed that 75% of the participants in the Ikot Udoma community, Eket LGA still favor traditional remedies like herbs and plant roots over modern pharmaceuticals prescribed by healthcare professionals.
Additionally, the team identified 11 individuals with hyperglycemia who were previously unaware of their high risk for type 2 diabetes.
Critical Hypertensive Emergencies
During the outreach, three individuals presented with critical, life-threatening hypertensive emergencies requiring immediate medical intervention:
G. A. — 240/120 mmHg
A. J. — 247/120 mmHg
J. J. — 197/133 mmHg
